Covid-19: Dominant Delta variant in the UK, can increase the risk of hospitalization
The interested Delta variant was identified in India now dominant in the UK and may have an increased risk of hospitalization compared to the alpha variant, the word health of the public on Thursday.
There were 5,472 new cases of Delta variants reported in the latest weekly numbers, taking a total of a variant case that was confirmed to 12,431, said PHE, added that it had followed Alpha, the variant was first identified at Kent British, as the dominant English variant.
The Delta variant is also considered to be more transmitting than Alpha, and Prime Minister Boris Johnson has warned that it can thwart plans for limiting locking in the UK until June 21.
“With this variant now dominant throughout the UK, it remains important that we continue to be careful, especially while we learn more about the impact of transmission and health,” said Jenny Harries, Chief Executive, British Health Security Agency.

PHE said that initial evidence shows there might be an increased risk of hospitalization for Delta, also known as B.1.617.2, compared to Alpha, known as B.1.1.7, but more data is needed to have more trust in the findings ,
PHE said there continued there was a substantial growth rate for delta compared to alpha “but did not update the benefits of transmission from variants.
The previous official said that Delta could from several percentage points to 50 percent more contagious than the alpha variant, and the extent to which the advantage could determine whether the limit can be lifted on June 21.
