Hong Kong democratic leader detained on Tiananmen’s birthday: Report

Hong Kong: Hong Kong police detained a leader of democracy on Friday morning when the authorities tried to prevent public warnings about the warning Tiananmen who turned into Beijing.
Thousands of officers were on standby after the government banned the candlelight annual vigil that had served for several decades as the day of the power of pro-democracy community in the city.

The first arrest came early Friday morning when Chow Hang-tung, one of the few leading democratic activists left has not been in prison being held by four officers outside his office.

Chow, 37, is one of the Deputy Chairperson of the Hong Kong Alliance who regulates the annual vigilance.

The police source told AFP that he had been detained because he was suspected of publishing a unlawful assembly.

The major crowd traditionally gathered in Hong Kong to mark the commemoration of Chinese forces who destroyed the peaceful democratic protest in Beijing Tiananmen square on June 4, 1989.

Hundreds of people were killed in hard action, with some estimates of more than 1,000.

Public coloring from the event is prohibited on the mainland.

Under one-Chinese, two system policies intended to give Hong Kong more freedom, the city is the only place in China where large-scale warnings are tolerated.

The biggest event in Hong Kong was in Victoria Park, where Vigils candle was held to remember those killed and called China to embrace democracy.

The authorities banned this year’s collection quoted Pandemic Coronavirus – although Hong Kong had not recorded local transmissions that could not be traced in more than a month.

While Vigil last year was also denied permission because of a pandemic, thousands only opposed the ban.

But many have changed in Hong Kong for the past year when the authorities tried to breathe the city’s pro-democracy movements using new new national security laws to criminalize many differences of opinion.

Officials have warned the subversion clause of the law can be used against those who mark Tiananmen.

Most of the most prominent city democracy figures – many of them will regulate and attend annual Vigils Tiananmen – being in prison, have been arrested or have fled abroad.
